Mo Co is underperforming and will be rebooted (again) – but Supercell says killing it is “unlikely”

Supercell has floated the possibility of killing its monster hunting game Mo Co after a recent reboot underperformed – but closing the game entirely “remains an unlikely scenario,” says the Finnish firm.
Three months after the monster hunting game was effectively relaunched, the development team has updated players on how it’s going: “mo.co is not performing as well as we hoped,”
the blog reads
.
“While some aspects, such as the new weapons and gameplay changes are promising, the gameplay loop quickly gets stale for most of our players, leading them to drop off. On the other hand, the average gameplay time for those who
are
staying is unusually high. This shows that mo.co is working quite well for a niche, but it’s not yet ready to scale up.”
There will now be further changes to the game which will disrupt the next season, and likely the one after that.
The blog continues: “You may be wondering about the future of the game. Could it be killed? That still remains an unlikely scenario. We have lots of ideas we’re excited about, and we fully believe in mo.co’s potential. However, we need to be open and transparent about the possibility.”
“A game still trying to find its place in the market is always at risk of being discontinued. For the moment, it’s not in our plan, and that will continue to be the case while we, as a team, believe in the incredible potential of this game we’re so passionate about.”
Supercell launched Mo Co in March 2025
with an unusual premise: players had to receive an invite from a creator or from Supercell itself to play the game.
Mo Co was opened up for all to play
a few months later in July, but has failed to catch fire in the same way most of Supercell’s other games have.
Shortly after the closure of Squad Busters, the Clash of Clans maker insisted that while it is earning relatively little for a Supercell game,
Mo Co is not closing, but is getting a big overhaul
. The
reboot went live in May of this year
.
AppMagic data
suggests that since launch in March 2025, Mo Co has earned around $6.7m from 9m downloads, with most revenue coming from the US (26%), Japan (12%), Germany (8%), France (7%) and South Korea (5%). In terms of revenue Mo Co is tracking dramatically below
Squad Busters, which was killed a little over a year after launch.
