estimates, Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisis has been downloaded 3.7m times, and generated around $100m in revenue in a little under three years, $680,000 of which was earned in the last 30 days.
Ever Crisis was most popular in Japan, with around a third of all lifetime downloads, while a quarter of players originate from North America. Across its full portfolio of mobile games,
Square Enix is thought to have earned around $6.88bn
.
“We understand that this news may be disappointing, and we sincerely apologize for the abrupt nature of this announcement,” the publisher said in a statement.
“Since the launch of the App Store and Google Play versions on September 7, 2023, and the Steam version on December 6, 2023, we have worked to provide the best possible experience for our players. After careful consideration, however, we have determined that it will be difficult to continue doing so and have made the decision to end service.”
Red Crystal Sales – the game’s in-game currency – are no longer available to buy, but players can use up their supply for as long as the game is online. Players in Taiwan may apply for a refund of unspent currency, and are not to delete their save files until the refund process has concluded.
