Kabam is closing its LA office in a move that will result in an unknown number of layoffs.
Game Developer
broke the news and posted the following statement from Kabam:
“Following a review of strategic priorities, Kabam made the decision to consolidate its LA office and streamline operations.”
“This wasn’t a decision made lightly and the company remains focused on its slate and committed to its partners.”
Kabam did not clarify how many jobs would be cut as part of the move. We have asked for further clarification and comment on the decision and will update this story if we receive any response.
Kabam is a wholly-owned subsidiary of South Korean giant Netmarble. It has struggled to follow up the success of flagship title Marvel Contest of Champions, having launched and then closed titles including Transformers: Forged To Fight, Disney Mirrorverse, Marvel Realm of Champions and King Arthur: Shadows Rise in recent years.
The only other live title currently running under the Kabam label is Shop Titans, a game the firm added to its portfolio as part of its acquisition of Montreal-based Riposte Games in 2019.
We spoke to Kabam in 2023 around the launch of its King Arthur game when it
stated its intentions of going multiplatform
after the game was showcased in Epic’s high profile State of Unreal showcase.
Kabam announced it had partnered with Herobeat Studios to launch Wilderings: The Lost Spring on Steam in March.
