Ubisoft has proposed closing RedLynx, the Helsinki studio behind the Trials series, putting up to 52 jobs at risk.
GamesIndustry.biz
reports that the plan is subject to a consultation process and was shared with staff today.
RedLynx had been repositioning itself around mobile since last year, when Ubisoft
proposed cutting up to 60 jobs
as the studio shifted its focus to small-screen games.
At the time, managing director Celine Pasula said the change would let RedLynx concentrate on technical excellence on mobile devices while building its cross-platform capabilities on small screens.
RedLynx also said it was working on two mobile games it had not yet announced.
GamesIndustry.biz
understands it now has no current project and no standalone games that could sustain it. It had also soft launched puzzle-and-decorate game
Gwen’s Getaway
in 2023, its first new original title in several years.
The studio was one of the Ubisoft teams that worked on Rainbow Six Mobile, which Ubisoft said last week
it will close
on January 15 next year. In total, 11 Ubisoft studios contributed to the game.
Rainbow Six Mobile generated an estimated $5.3m in lifetime in-app purchase revenue from 13.1m downloads, according to
AppMagic
estimates, including an extended soft launch that began in 2023.
Ubisoft also said today that 70 roles are affected at Ubisoft Singapore, which led development of Skull and Bones before it shipped in 2024 after multiple delays. That’s thought to be around one in five of its staff. Both studios sat within Ubisoft’s Creative Network, a central unit that backs other Ubisoft teams.
The proposals are part of Ubisoft’s wider restructuring, which
moved Ketchapp, Kolibri and the Hungry Shark games into a casual mobile division
in January. The division, Creative House 5, also houses Just Dance, Uno and Ubisoft’s licensed Hasbro games.
Elsewhere in its cost-cutting programme, Ubisoft has shut studios in Belgrade, Halifax, Stockholm and Winnipeg this year and cancelled six games.
